This is not a story about Gloucestershire, but I wanted to set down the results of my efforts to determine what came out of an investigation into the events concerned, and this seemed like the best place to do that.
On May 26th this year, someone with the word 'cop' in their Twitter title posted a link to a Youtube video which may have been the one below or similar, showing a confrontation between Avon & Somerset police and a crowd of young people quickly turning violent, the spark being one police officer who clearly didn't take even a moment to assess the situation before assaulting a youth for holding up a finger to another officer. The resulting Twitter conversation was a lot like the one below the clip, with the tweeter clearly agreeing with the view that the 'little s***s' got what they deserved. He (or she, but somehow I doubt it?) may have been the person, UKCopHumour, who posted the video in the first place, but either way, clearly reconsidered what he said in the Twitter exchanges, because the original tweet was deleted, eradicating the conversation.
The Somerset Live newspaper reported that 'Police say they have not received any formal complaints about the way their officers handled the situation, though the conduct of an officer is being reviewed.' So I found their Twitter address and tweeted, for the record, that I was complaining, 'Since anyone can report an 'offensive' tweet', so it should be a fairly simple process. They replied that 'we cannot take complaints via Twitter. You can make an official complaint here: www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/contact-us/complaints/'. I can't recall now, over two months later, if I went to the effort of going through all those hoops or not, but they are now still claiming not to have received complaints from the public, so I guess not.
So fine, if no-one local wished to challenged the police over their behaviour, and even if the officer most clearly at fault got away with a 'formal discipline notice' (pretty light, in the circumstances), I guess what happens in Taunton stays in Taunton.
Everything the constabulary are prepared to reveal of this: www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/investigation_of_arrests_of_yout?nocache=incoming-1070506#incoming-1070506

I would take an answer from you over the chance to complain. Has the investigation into the police actions in Victoria Park concluded?
