Just spit-balling here about what I would be pledging if I was standing as a candidate (probably as an independent, with the current state of the other parties). Perhaps someone will try to steal some, although the current lot don't seem that industrious.
The one that prompted this thread is legal notifications by the councils. They put a tiny one in the back of the Citizen/Echo and claim this is sufficient, despite the fact that those papers have become so rubbish that few people get to the classifieds. I would pledge to advertise any notification of adjustments to Terms of Enforcements on roads and the like by Twitter, Facebook, and community noticeboards,so that the public would be fully informed.

Another issue is the vegetation that is allowed to grow wild most of the year, usually only to be cut back once, late in the summer, when it is not overlooked. Even traffic signs, never mind street signs are sometimes obscured by leafy branches. However much we hear from Conservatives about the 'Big Community', nobody ever suggests that residents could cut back this growth, instead of just picking up cigarette butts and cans and crisp packets during a 'big Tidy'. I'd pledge to raise this at local meetings as an option for people want to do more than just vegetate themselves, provided the council also plays its part by co-ordinating efforts and recognising the public's contribution.
Maybe even the Labour party could be persuaded to think we could look after ourselves for a change, instead of waiting interminally for someone else to do it for us.

A more specific pledge to throw in here. Councillors like Saj Patel like to claim that temporary CCTV locations accomplish something, although the Glos police refused point blank to give any indication of what success the camera which was left for about a month on a lamp-post opposite Old Row in Barton had, and councillors won't say either CCTV cameras in Barton & Tredworth. Two sites which would have a real effect, or at least provide information which would, if police used it honestly, effect change, are outside the post office on High St, because it would reveal that claims by Barton police to the contrary, illegal parking continues to be rife throughout the day (and perhaps increase info about the criminal elements who seem to have made that street their home), and outside the so-called Al Ashraf 'primary school' on Stratton Rd, where parents routinely ignore the off road parking area provided, and park in the entrance, on double yellow lines. If I were councillor, I'd ask for these two things. Slim as the chances are of being listened to before that, I'll ask the council anyway, and certainly remind councillors of the request before the local elections.

I haven't had much time for outlining policies lately, but the lack of participation on the boards tells me there's no real hurry, anyway.
I will throw this one out, though. I promise never to dress up in silly costumes (unless everyone is doing it, i.e. during an It's A Knockout contest), or take on silly roles like mayor...
