There seem to be two versions of this story now...
(I wouldn't usually include the articles, but as the staff are liable to edit them without any notification...)
Weekly bin collections coming back to Barton?
Barton and Tredworth may get weekly bin collections back to combat litter and flytipping.
Rubbish piling the streets has become a regular complaint by residents who claim it has become a health hazard as it is attracting rats and seagulls.
Sidney Street has become a particular bugbear for the neighbourhood as a large mound of rubbish has piled up in a garden in the lane.
Resident Joe Kilker said the site had become one of the ward's most notorious flytipping spots.
"It is completely filled with rubbish and some of it seems to have been thrown in by passersby," he said.
"While the city council would probably say it's private property and therefore not their responsibility, when it becomes a public health hazard, is that not a very different story?"
A review has got underway into waste and recycling services in the city and part of it is considering changing the area's collections from fortnightly to weekly.
Councillor Sajid Patel (L, Barton and Tredworth) is pushing for the change, claiming it is the only way to combat the problem.
"There are a number of hotspots and it seems to be mostly household waste," he said.
"We have tried various things to combat this and while they have helped, it's not enough. We want our streets to be clean.
"Weekly collections would be welcome news to the community."
Councillor Jim Porter, cabinet member for the environment at Gloucester City Council, said they were looking to see if changes can be made to collection timings in certain areas of the city.
"Barton and Tredworth is included in the review, but any changes would obviously come at a cost," he said.
"However the council's priority has to be to keep our streets clean and tidy. The current situation with fly tipping and excess waste is not sustainable."

Sorry, that should be 'treating us like little children'. But Sandra, I think the 'idiot' is doing us a favour by showing everyone (except the paper, it seems) how meaningless the ratings are.

'Screwed' seemed to work, perhaps 'screw' is only blocked when followed by 'you'. We'll see. That R-O-F-L is blocked at all seems bizarre, it's not an acronym for anything rude, even on its own, rather than inside another word, as with Harsent.

Does anyone really believe that a garden is full of rubbish because of fortnightly rubbish collections? Tories are cheating us like little children who have to be indulged in our p****igacy, but then, when did they ever truly care about personal responsibility, and not the mind-set of '*********, Jack, I'm alright'?

Good - weekly collections should be brought back all across Gloucestershire and the multi-bin recycling charade costing an arm and a leg stopped. Now that Gloucestershire will have a waste to energy plany they need to re-thing the wasteful recycling collections - use your brains council waste officers! Recycling for achieving targets at any cost is now criminal.

So can we all have ours collected weekly. If not why are they being treated different to our area. Is this not a form of victimisation. Or are they paying me council Tax for refuse collection. This has to be done everywhere or no were. If not then Justify why not

Gloucester residents debate weekly rubbish collections
Questions have been raised about the future of rubbish collections in Gloucester as residents clamour to have weekly pick-ups.
Since the Citizen's report on Monday revealed weekly collections may return to Barton and Tredworth, many city homeowners want to see the same happen in their neighbourhoods.
Michelle Wager from Tredworth said on Facebook that while she did not have problems with her bins overflowing, she thinks there should be a blanket approach.
"Certainly I've never noticed rubbish piling up but if they are going to bring back weekly collections, I agree it should be all of Gloucester," she said.
"There are a few houses which have larger wheelie bins along Wheatstone Road, it may be a cheaper solution than increasing collections if the council issue a few more."
But Becky Bywater from Barnwood also responded, saying fortnightly collections were more than enough.
"I only put my grey bin out once per month and that is all that is needed," she said.
"I cannot understand with all the recycle options how people possibly need it emptying every two weeks let alone every week, people just need educating."
A review of the city's rubbish collections is currently underway, with weekly collections for Barton just one of the options being mooted.
Councillor Sajid Patel (C, Barton and Tredworth), who has been pushing for the change because of pest and flytipping problems, said not all areas were as densely populated as Barton.
"I do not think it would work well for the whole city to get weekly collections," he said.
"Most areas are coping well with it but if people are having problems in their areas than they should get weekly collections too."
Lloyd Griffiths, head of neighbourhood services at the city council, said it was a full, comprehensive study to establish what is needed from the waste and recycling service and how it can be provided in the most efficient way possible.
"When the review is complete, we will consult with all city residents before making any changes to the collections," he said.

Why would density of population necessitate weekly collections? If you have more than six people in your household, you already qualify for a bigger bin. No, it is the type of resident that is the problem. Some people can't be bothered to recycle, so their wheelie bin gets filled faster. Saj Patel is simply pandering to those who can't be bothered to sort out their waste properly. How is he proposing to finance this extra collection? It's his party that advocates austerity. Also, isn't it about time that the city council took action against the fly-tippers? I know from a recent FOI request that no-one has been identified for fly-tipping in the Barton and Tredworth ward (see tinyurl.com/62lz8w and search under Tredworth.
